- Start by making sure you have a Mailing List created, as well as any
custom fields that will hold information in addition to the email
address (like first name, last name, company, etc.)
- Create a CSV file (a 'cousin' of Excel) with your information. This
can be an export from your existing CRM with all of the custom fields
you'd like to import.
- Go to the left hand navigation and choose Lists.
- Scroll to the far right of the list you want to import into and hover over Action. Select 'Import Contacts'.
- Verify the list and then click Browse to find the list on your
computer. If there are existing contacts you're going to overwrite,
check off that box. If you're going to add these contact to an existing
autoresponder, check that box. If the file has headers, check that box.
- Map your fields and click 'Next'.
- Then import the fields. Depending on how big your list is will determine how long the import takes.
Note that you also have the option to import via your Salesforce account.
- Choose whether or not they are Confirmed or Unconfirmed. (opt-in or not verified opt-in yet)
- Choose which Format they should receive. (HTML or Text)
- Choose whether or not you are Overwriting an existing list ( or updating)
- Does your .CSV file have headers (explained above)? If so, tick this box.
- Browse and locate the .CSV file on your hard drive and click next.
- If you created custom fields and are bringing in additional data for
each subscriber, the next screen will ask you to map up the data in
your file with the custom field it should be mapped to.
- Click Import to start the import process.
Once the import process begins a window will appear with a
ticker counting down the import as it goes. Please leave the window
open to complete the import process. Once complete, the system will
confirm the total number of subscribers successfully imported along with
any information on emails not imported (bad email addresses), remove
any duplicate records and report on the import process.
Note that
your browser window must remain open until the import process has
completed. Otherwise, it will import until the point the browser closes.
