What are list segments and how do I create them?
Segments are sets of subscribers on your list who all fulfill certain criteria you want to run a filter on. For example, if you had State as a populated custom field, you could run a filter and create a segment based on a specific state.

You can also use multiple criteria to define segments. Using the example above, you could add an additional filter to delve deeper into that State segment you created.

The criteria that you can use to define segments depend on the built-in and custom fields you use for the contact list. This allows you to target the audience for each of your email campaigns with great precision, as long as you collect the right information about your contacts.

Segments can belong to a single list, or span multiple lists.

How to create a segment

  • In the left-hand navigation, go to Subscribers and select Segments. Note that you must have populated lists and custom fields already set up.
  • Click Create and choose which lists you're going to apply the segment to. On this same screen, you can apply an 'And/Or' approach to your filters and then, select your criteria. 
  • Click 'Save' and your segment will automatically populate. Note the number listed is the total contacts in the segment and not just active contacts. You can export those by hovering over 'Export Contacts' while viewing the full list of segments.
