What is a trigger and how can I set one up?
A trigger activates an action when a specific event occurs. Popular forms of triggers are date activated: sending a birthday/anniversary email, reminding someone of an appointment, etc. Other options include sendng a trigger based on a link click or an opened email.

Here's how to set up a trigger:

  • In the left-hand navigation, select Triggers under the Advanced section.
  • Click Create.
  • Name your trigger and select what criteria you want it to be based on: a contact's date field, specific date, link click or opened campaign.
  • Select the list(s) you want to apply it to.
  • Choose when to trigger the action either on the exact date, the next anniversary of the date or every anniversary of the date. This all depends on how often you want the person to receive it.
  • Select the campaign to be sent and then choose whether you want a person to be added to a new list or removed upon the trigger being sent.
  • Activate the trigger.
  • There is also a Sending Options tab where you can choose the send from name and the send from/reply to email address.

The key with successful triggers is identifying exactly what the directive of the trigger is (birthday card, appointment reminder, etc) and create with that in mind.
